What is the difference between the 32 Amp Vs. 40 Amp Charger?

There is a power current draw size difference. All this means is that the 32 Amp charger max draws a current of 32 Amps charging at 7.68 Killowats Per Hour (KwH) per hour which can give your vehicle a charge of up to 30 Miles/Hour when charging with a Level 2 240V outlet, where as the 40 Amp charger max draws a current of 40 Amps charging at 9.7 Killowats Per Hour (KwH)  can give your vehicle a charge of up to 40 Miles/Hour when charging with a Level 2 240V outlet. Please note that each vehicle's charging capacities are different.

How do I know my vehicle's charging capabilities? I.E The max current my vehicle can handle

If you open your vehicle charge port door and refer to the text or info section,  it will usually show it's max charging capabilities. Example: 

- Vehicle 1: 48A (This means it's max current capacity is 48 Amps - charge at any current of 48 Amps or under) 
or  
-  Vehicle 2: 16A (This means it's max current capacity is 16 Amps - charge at any current of 16 Amps or under) 

If you can't find the info in your vehicle charge port, read your vehicle instruction manual or contact your dealership's service department and ask them “ what’s the max amperage/current my vehicle can handle for charging?” 


Why adjustable current and LCD screens are very important for home electrical circuit safety?

It is important to understand that home electrical panels typically have a maximum total current capacity set at around 100 amps or 50 amps. Furthermore, the combined currents from individual branch circuits contribute to the overall current on the main circuit. For instance, if your EV charger is configured to draw 40 amps, this means that the remaining capacity for your home circuits should not exceed 60-80 amps. However, certain appliances such as clothes dryers or space heaters may consume around 20 amps each, making it easy to overload your primary circuit when the EV charger and other high-power devices are in operation.

To address this concern, the LCD screen provides real-time monitoring of the charging current. By estimating your total electrical load, you can adjust the EV charger to a lower setting when using other high-power appliances. Additionally, the Hardwiire HW1 Portable EV Charger offers a delayed charging feature, allowing you to schedule charging sessions to avoid overlapping high electrical demands, especially during nighttime hours. This feature effectively prevents circuit overloads. Furthermore, the temperature readout displayed on the LCD screen serves as a safeguard against potential overheating issues during operation.

What’s the difference between Level 1 & Level 2 Charging?

Hardwiire's electric vehicle charger can function as both a Level 1 and Level 2 EV charger by having dual compatibility with different plug types. When connected to a standard 110V NEMA 5-15 household outlet, it operates as a Level 1 charger, providing slow but convenient overnight charging. To achieve Level 2 charging speeds, the same portable charger can be connected to a 240V NEMA 14-50 outlet, enabling faster charging for increased flexibility and convenience in various charging scenarios.

What is the warranty on this electric vehicle charger?

Hardwiire EV Charging Station is covered under a 2-Year Warranty. Hardwiire warrants that this product is free from defects in materials and free from defects in workmanship for the period specified in the warranty from the date of purchase. If during the Warranty Period, under normal operating conditions, your charging station becomes defective, Hardwiire will, upon written notice of the defect, replace the charging station until the defect is resolved.
